“Where in the world do I start?”. When I am wearing my Interior Designer hat, that is what I often hear from my clients as they try to pull all the elements together in a room. Those who are not designers, or color experts, can find the process of “pulling it all together” an extreme challenge, unaware of the infamous inspiration piece. Does this sound like you? Not to worry. There is an easy rule of thumb to start with when designing an interior room.
Begin with an “inspiration” piece.
What does that mean? It means starting with a piece that either you already have and want to keep, or something that you purchased because you love the style, shape or colors. This can be as simple as a throw pillow or rug. If it is a colorful piece select 2-3 colors in the piece and consistently use those colors throughout the room. But what if your inspiration piece is a neutral color?
I often like to start with neutral colors. You can design a room using all neutral colors but I think that is a little boring, don’t you? So how do you pull it all together when your inspiration piece is a neutral tone?
